What is design registration?
A design registration protects a product’s unique overall appearance. That is, it’s visual shape, configuration, pattern and ornamentation. A registered design can be a valuable commercial asset. Registration of a design gives the owner protection for the visual appearance of the product. It does not protect the feel of the product; what the product is made from; or how the product works. A registered design provides the owner with the exclusive right to that design in the marketplace with respect of the product for which it is registered.
